"I have found that time can heal most anything and you just might find who you are supposed to be"

I was inspired to write this post from good old, Taylor Swift. Love her or hate her, there is no denying that she has made a huge impact on the music industry with her ability to connect to her fans. She is mostly known for writing songs on love and heartbreak. She recently came out with a surprise album that she wrote during quarantine titled, 'Folklore'. As I was listening to the album, I was overwhelmed with feelings of love, pain, sadness, strength, and hope. Music has an amazing way of helping us process our emotions, it's very therapeutic.

According to an article that was published by TIME Magazine in 2018, studies have shown that music can uplift your mood, decrease depression, improve blood flow, lower stress, and ease pain. For me personally, music has gotten me through some rough times in my life and also some joyous ones too. I thought I'd share a few songs below that have impacted me in one way or another.

  1. 1. Here Comes The Sun - The Beatles

    1. I first heard this song when I was 8 years old while watching the movie, The Parent Trap (back then I didn't know who The Beatles were so cut me some slack). This song just takes me to innocent times when I was little. I just imagine myself in a field of sunflowers dancing in circles in a flowy dress. Simply put, it makes me happy. This song makes me believe that everything will be OK in the end no matter how difficult life can be sometimes.

2. Fix You - Coldplay

My 8th grade principal actually recited lyrics from this song at our graduation. I rushed home to find the song on the internet and just fell in love with it ever since. I had the following lyrics on my corkboard when I first went away to college:

"When you try your best but you don't succeed,

When you get what you want but not what you need,

When you feel so tired but you can't sleep,

Stuck in reverse"

"Lights will guide you home,

And ignite your bones,

And I will try to fix you"

During my first year away at college, I was suffering from severe depression. I was so unhappy and completely broken. This song helped me hold on and believe that things would get better. This is my go-to song when I need a little faith.

3. Workin' On It - Megan Trainor

This is probably the most recent song that I've really connected with on an emotional level. The lyrics describe me to a T, so much so that every time I hear it I have to hold back tears. I am obsessed with my body, I am repeatedly pointing out imperfections in the mirror almost every day. I am constantly telling myself that I'm "working on it" when it comes to being kinder to myself both physically and emotionally.

4. The Bones - Maren Morris

This song reminds me of my fiance, Cody, and I. We have gone through so much in our 8 years together, and even when times get tough, we work through it because we have such a good foundation. Love conquers all. When it comes on the radio, I roll down the windows and belt out (Sometimes Cody will join in the fun :) )

5. All Too Well - Taylor Swift

I felt like it was appropriate to end this post with a Taylor Swift song. This is my favorite song of hers by far. The melody and lyrics are just perfection.

"Hey, you call me up again just to break me like a promise,

So casually cruel in the name of being honest"

It gives me a first love type of feeling. Once the powerful chorus comes in, you can't help but take a hairbrush and dance around the living room singing at the top of your lungs.

What songs have inspired you in your life?

Until next time!

Danielle
